The head of the Financial Stability Department of the Ministry of Finance Ivan Chebeskov announced the possible launch of international settlements with cryptocurrencies in 2023. The information was confirmed by the head of the State Duma Committee on the financial market Anatoly Aksakov.
The Bank of Russia stressed that there is no talk about the legalization of cryptocurrencies as a means of payment in the country, as well as about the resolution of crypto exchanges and crypto exchanges within the country, but the issue is being worked out jointly with the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Economic Development, Izvestia learned.
Ilya Trunin, deputy head of the government apparatus, believes that first the concept of cryptocurrency should be introduced into the Civil Code, which Anatoly Aksakov does not agree with, arguing that this is an increase in the time spent.
The Ministry of Economic Development advocates the use of cryptocurrencies for international transactions, since in the future cross-border settlements using cryptocurrencies can help reduce sanctions pressure, including on small and medium-sized companies that are currently experiencing difficulties in making payments.
However, as the department stressed, this method can only be used as an additional one.
At the end of August, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin proposed introducing digital assets to pay for imports and exports. According to Mishustin, this will be a safe alternative for all parties. It was not specified which assets could be used for these transactions.
